Tradition of Excellence
Marie Elliott, mother of 11th grader Travis Elliott, received the Tradition of Excellence Award at the Board meeting on November 20, 2013. As Chair of the 2014 After Prom, Marie works tirelessly to organize the 2014 After Prom. For those who have history and experience with such an undertaking, appreciate the notion this is a year-long commitment of the greatest magnitude. Besides organizing the many parent volunteer committees, raising money and seeking donations is an on-going challenge that only happens when the Chair turns their life over to the good of the Project.
At its November 20, 2013, regular business meeting, the Smithville R-II Board of Education voted unanimously to refinance $3,125,000 in General Obligation bonds that were issued in 2004. Results of the refinance will produce a gross saving of $759,561.50 in interest savings by lowering the interest rate on the principal amount from 5.25% to 2.22%. “The Board of Education and our entire staff know the immense responsibility we have to closely monitor our resources to provide our students with the highest quality education possible,” said Superintendent Dr. Schuetz.
